We’re not a recruitment agency

(and why that’s a good thing for you!)

Have you ever worked with a recruitment agency to fill a role? How was it?

For many small business owners that I've spoken to, whether it's in disability services, not-for-profit (or anywhere really) they say similar things.

Yes, they get the role filled.

But...

The process is often expensive, it feels transactional, and the person wasn't always the best fit for the team.

Kin Group Consulting isn't a recruitment agency.

So we do things differently. We act as an embedded HR partner who designs and runs a recruitment process for you. As PART of your business, not external to it.

Why does that matter? Well…

It's more Values-aligned. We are attracting candidates who fit your culture and purpose. Not skills on a job description.

It's sustainable. As the process evolves we are building your internal capability. That means (if you want to) you will have the skills to run your own process, and not be dependant on us.

It's ethical. The way we do HR is different from the ground up. We embed inclusive, accessible, and ethical practices into every stage of the process.

We don’t work for commission, we work for you

Agencies can charge anywhere between 12 -20% of a new hire’s full-time salary package (including super and allowances). And that's on the conservative side.

We don’t do that. Our fees are based on the actual work we do, not a percentage of someone else’s wages. Sometimes that means we help with a few key pieces of the process; sometimes we run the whole thing. Either way, you’re paying for expertise, not a cut of your new employee’s pay packet.

We don’t just “find someone” , we help you find the right someone

When you are bringing someone into your team, it's an investment. You are adding a set of skills, a lifetime of experience, a whole person with ideas, passions and values. Evey hire is a chance to strengthen your team and culture. That is big. And it means you want to do it right...so we:

  • Write job ads that actually sound like you and your organisation.

  • Screen for both skills and values fit.

  • Design accessible, fair processes so you don’t lose great people because the system was stacked against them.

  • Treat every candidate like a human, not a number.

Equity and care are built in - because we are all human.

As part of our commitment to ethical HR, we design every recruitment process to be inclusive and fair. We've even built our own 'Regenerative HR Compass' to guide our decision making. It’s built into the way we work.

We remove unnecessary barriers, and coded bias in job descriptions or ads. We offer flexibility in how people interview or show their skills, so they can bring their best. This might mean a different interview format, extra time to prepare, or another way to present their capability. We also reach out to diverse candidates instead of waiting for them to find you. Building a strong, equitable team takes intention, and we make that a priority every time.

Every interaction with a candidate shapes your reputation as an employer.

That’s why we communicate clearly and promptly at every stage. We give feedback where we can. And we make sure every candidate leaves with a good impression of your organisation, whether they get the job or not.

Half the cost, with better results

When I was in the early days of working with a new client, they were about to recruit a new person to their team. They were set to pay about $15,000 to a recruitment agency for the hire (the role was a mid-level professional).

Instead, as we were now an embedded part of her team, we took a different route. Working with us she got a brand-aligned job ad that reached the right people. We handled every candidate enquiry. She received a shortlist of only the strongest candidates, already screened for both skills and values.

We prepared tailored interview questions and booked the interview times. We managed the reference checks and pre-employment checks.

My client ended up with a thriving new team member, who is still growing with them today. The process reflected the brand she was building, and a bill that was half of what she’d paid before.

The bottom line

My guess is that as a Founder or CEO, your plate is pretty full. The idea of bringing on a team member is exciting, but also a little daunting. But I share this post to remind you, you don't have to do it yourself. You also don’t have to choose between affordability and quality.

With Kin Group Consulting, you get a partner who will save you money. We strengthen your culture. We build equity and care into your process. And we help you hire well, and keep people longer.

If you’re tired of the “find, charge, disappear” model, let’s talk about a recruitment process that actually works for your team, your values, and your future.
